It seems to have been inspired in parts of the story by the works of Stephen King, containing allusions to 'It' and 'The Stand'. However, the story draws allusions mostly from rock and roll, with its title based on T. Rex's famous song, "20th Century Boy". I have to say, Naoki Urasawa is probably one the most talented japanese comic artist today. And I'm such a big fan. I've been following Urasawa's works since the day of 'Master Keaton' and 'Monster' which had won many comics awards. The last chapter of the story is being serialized under the name "21st Century Boys". Also, a live action movie adaption is planned to be released in August of 2008, directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi. IMHO, I can't be really happy seeing this trailer by the japanese production.
